Doctoral, Postdoctoral, and Visiting
Scholar Positions in Operations Research
at the Naval Postgraduate School

The Operations Research Department of the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) seeks qualified applicants for doctoral, postdoctoral, and visiting scholar positions in the areas of military operations research, homeland security, logistics, search and detection, and autonomous systems.

NPS is a fully accredited technical university with a highly motivated student body consisting of military officers and government employees from the U.S. and allied countries. The Operations Research Department offers MS and PhD degrees and is one of the largest in the country with its 150 students, 25 tenure-track faculty, and 19 full-time adjunct faculty, including a member of the National Academy of Engineering, three INFORMS Fellows, and three Koopman Prize winners. NPS is located on the Pacific coast in Monterey, California, about 120 miles south of San Francisco.

Research Assistant Positions for PhD Students
The OR Department invites applicants for Research Assistant positions leading to a PhD degree in operations research. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, operations research, applied mathematics, or a related field and will be research oriented. The positions start September 2008 or January 2009 and are restricted to U.S. citizens. Successful applicants will be federal employees during their multiyear tenure and will receive associated benefits. Postdoctoral Research and Teaching Positions
The OR Department invites applications for 1-year Postdoctoral positions in operations research with the possibility for extending the tenure. The positions consist of a combination of research and teaching of graduate level courses in the OR Department as negotiated with the candidate. Candidates should hold a PhD in operations research or a related field and have a strong interested in solving real-world problems. Applications are currently being considered and is restricted to U.S. citizens. Employment will begin as early as July 2008. National Research Council Postdoctoral Associateship Positions
The OR Department and the National Research Council invite applicants for Postdoctoral Associateship positions. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in operations research or a related field and have a strong interest in solving real-world problems. The positions are awarded by the National Research Council and the research is carried out in the OR Department under guidance of our faculty. Visiting Scholar Positions
The OR Department invites faculty at U.S. and foreign universities to join NPS for 3-12 month visits to work on real-world operations research problems. A visitor can work with the OR Department's highly-experienced military officer students and utilize our classified research facilities.Teaching of graduate level operations research classes may also be possible.
